Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Police report they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; authorities are presently not cognizant of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to unravel the case" and have asked to the community for tips.
A senior official stated the incident left him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, referring to the killing of nine people by a gunman aiming at individuals of migrant background in 2020.
